Top 5 Shawarma Restaurants in Bahrain

Did you know? Shawarma originates from the Turkish work çevirme, which means "turning". Shawarma roots back to 1666 and it can be seen in the Ottoman paintings from 1616. Ottoman cuisine was very influential and it has spread until Mexico. The Lebanese immigrants introduced Shawarma in the form of tacos in Mexico for the first time.

Recipe of Shawarma – Marinate the chicken with chili paste, vinegar & oregano, and for beef marinate it with cinnamon, nutmeg, thyme & cardamom. It is then filled in pita bread or khubz (Arabic bread), sauced with (tahini for beef) and (garlic sauce for chicken) along with onions and pickles.

5) Turkish Oven $

Price:
1 BHD – 1.5 BHD
(Per Person)

Turkish Oven is located in a busy street in Manama, so finding parking can be a big problem. Their Shawarma is more than enough for a person. It is almost equivalent to 2-3 shawarmas from any other shawarma place in Bahrain. It is competitively priced and good value for the size of the shawarma they offer.

Hint! – Ask for an extra sauce with the fries.

4) Haifa Cafeteria $

Price:
0.600 BHD

(1 Sandwich)

I consider Haifa different because they are among the first restaurants in Bahrain to offer Shawarma in Chapati bread. Their sandwich (Malgoom) is a mix of meat and chicken shawarma and 2 sandwiches can easily fill your tummy. They are very well priced and their sandwich is well worth a try. Experience Shawarma in a different style of bread (Chapati). Again, it shares a similar parking problem to Turkish Oven.

3) Malgoom $$

Price:

0.600 BHD – 1.700 BHD
(1 Sandwich)

This is a very modern restaurant, located in Hala Plaza Manama. They have a variety of Shawarma & Malgoom Sandwiches available in classic chicken or meat shawarma, and chapati or saj bread. They specialize in Shawarmas.

Hint! – Don’t forget to try their Malgoom fries.

2) YASALAM $$

Price: 0.500 BHD – 1.200 BHD
(1 Sandwich)

YASALAM has the best meat shawarma in Bahrain, period! They also have a very good Malgoom sandwich and it is a good restaurant to visit with your family.

Hint! – Their Loaded Fries are a must! (I prefer them without jalapenos). Oh yea, ask them to add extra cheese & caramelized onions!

1)  Lebanese Oven $

Price: 0.400 BHD
(1 Sandwich)

If YASALAM has the best meat shawarma then Lebanese Oven has the best chicken shawarma in Bahrain. Their shawarma is very well priced and the best thing about them is that they understand how to make a real shawarma.

I am a firm believer in eating in a restaurant where the chef cooks food which is native to them. Their chef is Lebanese and he knows how a proper shawarma is made.

Hint! – Ask them for extra garlic sauce in your sandwich (If you’re a fan of garlic, of course!).
